Lupus is treatable: Systemic lupus can be a very severe disease, especially in children.Plaquenil (hydroxychloroquine) alone may be sufficient to help prevent flares of disease once it is in remission,but to put it into remission most often involves oral or IV steroids.Depending on organs affected (kidney and brain disease can be most severe), patients may need methotrexate, rituximab(biologic),Cytoxan,Cellcept,Imuran or a combo of these
