A member asked:

I have a cousin with lupus & now i do. thought it came from your mom or closer relative. how did i get it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Autoimmune: Lupus is an auto-immune disease which can have a multitude of symptoms and can range from being very mild to life threatening. It's not clear how people get it and having someone in your family with it does increase your risks of developing it and other auto-immune diseases, but it's not "passed down" from parent to child the way say hair color is.
