Yes: There are squamous and adenocarcinomas of the esophagus. The latter is most common now at the cardioesophageal junction. Both should be biopsied and transesophageal ultrasound performed to define extent. Most are best treated up front with RT chemo followed by IVOR-LEWIS. thoracoabdominal esophagogastrectomy for cure.
