Not really: Energy drinks are basically stimulants so you get a bit od a boost in wakefulness however they ar3e not considered to be a healthy meal choice and in an unhealthy individual or young teen they can have dire consequences.

No: the better question is whether they are harmful, the answer to which can be a resounding YES, especially when taken in larger amounts than recommended, or in individuals who are too young or too old, or have otherwise compromised health status, or are just very sensitive to caffeine. Proper energy comes from a good diet, stress reduction, adequate sleep and exercise. Using caffeine is NOT answer.
