B-12 Deficiency: B-12 is usually absorbed with food, but requires a stomach protein called 'intrinsic factor.' This factor can diaspper with age (atrophic stomach) or an autoimmune process where the factor gets knocked out. Ask your doctor to run a panel to see if there are anti-parietal antibodies. In the meantime you need to have B-12 levels run and treatment to prevent the neuropathic symptoms that you describe
