Back pain: Degenerative disc decease in the low back is very common at the Lumbar 4/5 level. The pain that you describe is from impingement of the L5 nerve root. This pain is also described as sciatica. The black patch is unrelated to the radiating leg pain. See a neurosurgeon for treatment.
