Does having hypothyroidism mean my thyroid is totally dead and does not work at all?

Probably Not.: Hypothyroidism is the condition where thyroid hormone levels are low, but there are a variety of causes. It is extremely rare to have a completely non-functional thyroid gland that doesn't produce any amount of thyroid hormone; more commonly, the gland simply isn't producing enough hormone to meet the body's demands.
