Atypical odontalgia: is a poorly understood pain disorder that is best defined as persistent pain in apparently healthy teeth or adjacent oral tissues (e.g., alveolar bone, gingiva, palate). AO can follow seemingly innocuous dental procedures such as crown preparation, drilling of dentine and teeth cleaning. Rec.: see orofacial pain specialist for evaluation and treatment.
