Very rarely: While a bad gallbladder attack may make you feel like you want to die it is rarely fatal. Every year over 500, 000 gallbladder removal operations are done in the us for gallbladder related pain. Some are severely infected. Rarely a patient with a poorly functioning immune system has difficulty fighting the infection and dies. The vast majority recover quickly and get on with life.
