Limit Carbohydrates: A well balanced nutritious diet is fundamental. It is important to related the diet to the type of diabetes. While both types 1 and 2 should limit cholesterol, type 2 patients who require more weight loss may need to limit carbohydrates and saturated fats more. A nice goal would be for daily protein 10-20% of total calories, and saturated fat no higher that 8-9% of total calories.
