Be patient, vigilant: Lymph nodes commonly appear in response to infectious challenges. The vast majority do not require biopsy. As a general rule, the higher in the neck the node is located, the less likely it is to be a serious problem. If the lymph node in question gets progressively larger, you need to be reevaluated, but even then there's no reason to panic.

In a manner of: Speaking, what your doctor meant was that this node has been present for a long time.Most people, if they know how to search, can find an enlarged node in their neck.Should they all be cut on and biopsied?No.Will you miss a cancer eventually after thousands of benign nodes?Yes.What to do?Watch it for any change but don't keep touching it.:-).
