A member asked:

Does mirena (levonorgestrel) prevent ovulation? if not should i use backup around ovulation time ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Mirena (levonorgestrel) does not affect your ovarian cycle at all. It works as a birth control at the level of the uterus and cervix. It is a very effective method, but if you would feel better using a second method to target ovulation, then talk to your obgyn for options. Good luck.
