A member asked:

I have been taking sertraline 100mg for a year. for depression. in the last 4month reduced it to 50mg. is it ok to reduce it to 25mg to stop it .

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Risks: Gradual reduction is the best approach to discontinue sertraline and avoid discontinuation syndrome. Generally 2 weeks will suffice regarding depressive symptoms risk of recurrence increases with number of episodes. Approach is to treat first episode for one year then consider discontinuation . Second: similarly one year but more cautious about discontinuation third: life long.
