Trigeminal neuralgia: The presumed cause of tn is a blood vessel pressing on the trigeminal nerve as it exists the brain stem. The compression causes the wearing away of the protective coating around the nerve(myelin sheath). Other causes include nerve damage, genetic tendency, stress is an aggravating factor. This deterioration causes the verve to send abnormal signals to the brain.
