No injury. have outer ankle/foot pain for > 3 weeks no swelling/bruiseing antinflammatories & icing but pain is worse. clean xrays, dr gave no cause.

Purely based: On exact location of pain and clinical exam the doctor should have a differential diagnosis. Xrays only show bone and are only going to help if there is bony injury.
If you simply mark your foot with an "x" take a pic and post it a differential diagnosis could be given...Was your doctor a specialist?
