May need shoe insert: Shin splints are often caused by pronation of the feet and can often be alleviated by over the counter firm arch supports. Custom arch supports last much longer but can get expensive. Get a bio-mechanical exam from a podiatrist or physical therapist to make sure nothing else is causing your shin splints, like stress fracture or too much pressure building up around the calf muscles.
