It really depends on: why you have a high nucleated red blood cell count. In adults, it's an indication that the bone marrow is pumping out new (immature) red blood cells at an abnormal rate. It often indicates ongoing damage to mature red blood cells. Among the causes are malaria, enlarged spleen and certain hereditary blood disorders. Ask you doctor for more info. Dr. Anne
