Forgive my frankness: Cystic acne is a brutal disease that gravely disfigures you now and will leave your skin permanently mutilated. You can't treat it on you own, and if your parents are interfering with your desire for effective therapy, pick up the phone and call your physician. Despite all the internet scare stuff, Isotretinoin is by far the most effective medication. It's not for sissies, but it's what you need.

Not recommended: Treating cystic acne with home remedies may lead to permanent scarring, infection and may even lead to brain infection and blood vessel infarction. A dermatologist or a family doctor who has a calling for acne should be consulted as there are many forms of available medical therapies. The doctor may even be able to provide you some tips you can use at home to help tackle the problem better.

See a Dermatologist: Nodulocystic acne is a serious kind of acne vulgaris because of the deep inflammation and cysts that form which tend to scar. It requires a dermatologist's care. We frequently begin with oral medications in addition to topicals and then if no response proceed to Accutane or hormonal therapy for females.

Specialist: This is the 21st century and no one needs to have untreated cystic acne. This usually requires some of one of the strong medicines that only a dermatologist can prescribe. Over-the-counter and home remedies do not work. You owe it to yourself to be seen now -- it is your right.

What is the definition or description of: cystic acne?

Severe, scarring: Acne cysts are large nodules developing deep within the dermis, or second layer of skin. They are painful, disfiguring, and may cause deep scars. There is often a genetic predisposition to cystic acne. Treatment usually requires systemic medication including oral isotretinoin, and should be started early, before the scarring is established.
