Amblyopia: Amblyopia is a condition in which an eye which is otherwise normal, sees less well. It is almost always caused by some eye malposition or refractive differencies between the two eyes in infancy and early childhood. The pattern of amblyopia becomes fixed if not treated by age 8 years. After that, exercises, etc. Cannot correct the condition. The eye may drift from the other - termed "lazy eye".

Rx May help: Ambliopia is the process where the brain ignores the "camera" picture from one eye because it is less clear or causes double vision. It can sometimes be improved if the weaker eye is strengthened (glasses), the stronger eye is patched or if the eye is lined up better with surgery. If the process has gone on too long, the brain ignores the fix & surgery is simply cosmetic.
