Hard to say...: It would be great if we had a radiograph to examine... your canines may be impacted or malpositioned in such a way that they will never erupt. It's best to see a local dentist who can examine you.

Impacted canine?: A canine is considered impacted if it does not come into the mouth at approx.age 11 and remains inside the bone in an ectopic (wrong) position. At your age (48) you may need a combination treatment orthodontist and oral surgeon. See your orthodontist for definitive diagnosis.

Canines: Lower canines are usually fully erupted about 9 (girls), 10 (boys). Upper 11 (girls), 12 (boys). There's an 18-24 month window on either side of these dates. For an accurate answer see a Dento-facial growth and development specialist, an Orthodontist. No two people are alike, so the person with the canine eruption problem should be examined. Don't depend on Mother Nature, see an Orthodontist.
