Hospitalization: If someone is having an asthma attack that is not responding to their rescue medication, they need to go the er immediately to be treated in the hospital.

Treatment....: Treatment rendered in an er for a patient suffering status asthmaticus could include high dose IV steroids, continuous beta agonist inhalation via nebuluzer, supplemental oxygen and even endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation, if severe enough. Antibiotics are given if there is any infection present. Other treatments depend on initial response to these therapies.
