A member asked:

Can docs please explain are benazepril hcl and lisinopril the same?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Close but no: Both agents mentioned are in the same class of medication: angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors that lower blood pressure. The mechanism of action (ace inhibitor) is too complex to describe here. They have different dose responses so may affect patients differently at different doses. As long as they are well tolerated they can be substituted for one another.
