Can be: Any infection can be dangerous. Chicken pox is caused by the varicella virus. Typically however, if you are not immunocompromised, it resolves with time without any significant problems. Once you have chicken pox, it lies asleep in your body and can come back as shingles. Shingles often comes when your immune system is compromised due to an illness (often when you are older).

No age limit!: If you have never had chickenpox you can get it at any age. You can get chickenpox from exposure to shingles also. Many adults who assume they have not had chickenpox are actually immune because they have had a mild case and not recognized it was chickenpox. You can have a blood test to see if you are immune or just get the vaccine. You should also get your son vaccinated once he is 12 months old.

Maybe: Studies show most adults with no memory of cpx are immune, but those adults that are not are at higher risk than kids. A 22 yo with CPX pneumonia died in my town several years ago. Get your blood tested to see if you are immune or get the vaccine.
