It could be a: Viral ;#40;infectious mononucleosis;#41; or bacterial ;#40;strep;#41; infection. Only ur dr can make the correct diagnosis. Take care!

Strep throat: Is a common bacterial infection. Strep throat is a contagious disease and need to be differentiate from a sore throat viral infection. Rec.: see your pcp for evaluation and a throat culture or rapid strep test.
