Treating canker sore: Canker sores are unpredictable, because they are not caused by an infection initially - they are similar to other autoimmune conditions, which are caused by your immune system. They have to run their course, but using Peridex (chlorhexidine gluconate) (a prescription dental rinse) can expedite the healing. Just make sure you aren't talking about a cold sore, which is actually herpes, a very contagious condition.
