AM stiffness: Morning stiffness is usually a sign of some type of arthritic condition. Ankle arthritis is not all that common but is often seen in people who have had injuries including fractures to the ankles. It can also be seen in people who have rheumatoid arthritis and other types of inflammatory arthritis (different from osteoarthritis). See your doctor and i bet he/she can figure it out for you.

Several reasons: If you have injured the ankle it could be a response to injury. It could be from arthritis. If it continues, you shoud see a doctor.
