White blood cells: Any stressor (stress, infections, poor sleep, poor diet) can affect the white count number, with dramatic changes in short periods of time. The total white count is not that helpful by itself, but it can be more helpful with knowledge of the differential (percentages of types of white blood cells) in assessing someone's ability to fight infections.
