Yellow for a Fellow: Discoloration in the back of the throat may be due to several reasons. Most commonly its due to mucous mixed with food particles and bacteria that coat the mucosa. These substances can also become trapped in the tonsillar folds or crypts and produce foul smelling sebum-like collections called tonsillar stones or tonsilloliths. A water-pik can wash them away. Candida infection is another cause.
