Preterm labor: To evaluate a patient for premature labor, it is essential to monitor uterine contractions and fetal heart beat. An early cervical examination and a follow up cervical examination will tell if there has been cervical change. Cervical change is a hallmark of premature labor. If there is cervical change, then treatment can be started.
