Less than 10%: Less than 10% with newer techniques - vnus radiofrequency or laser. Up to 30% with older techniques - sclerotherapy. Recannalization can be treated.

Depends on Rx method: Earliest endovenous method used vnus closure, three pronged device, recanalization 10-15%. Closurefast heats 120 degrees c, recanalization 1-3%. Laser 800-900 nm series targets hemoglobin, recanal 1-3%. 1000-1500nm lasers target water, recanal 1-3%. Some use foamed sclerotherapy, recanal 10-15%, and higher. Vein stripping gets rid of primary vein, but 20% recurrence involving accessory veins.

Avg 3% at 5 years : All saphenous vein treatments have some reopening. Numbers vary by how long patients are followed and type of treatment. Surgical pin-stripping has recurrence of veins[ 20-30%} but not often the exact veins were treated. Older RF ablation had a high recurrence[15%].newer RF closure fast has 3% and modern laser closure has about 3% reopening. Foam sclerotherapy at least 30% recannalization.

High success rate.: Venous closure procedures , in general, have a high success and closure rate in the realm of 97 to 98% at 5 years. Closure procedures can be done with multiple techniques including laser, radio frequency, foam sclerotherapy and now, mechanochemical ablation. The closure rates seem to be equivalent for all except foam sclerotherapy. The future of venous ablation may be a an injectable glue.
