Bacterial overgrowth: Due to the neuropathy effects of dm, the small bowel can develop excess bacteria. This can result in malabsorption ; subsequent diarrhea and fat malabsorption (steatorrhea). Dm can also caused slow stomach emptying (gastroparesis).
