DGL,slippery elm: Chronic or recurring heartburn needs to be checked out by a doc to make sure there aren't ulcerations, erosions, infection, cancer etc. Heartburn can be worsened by mint, chamomile, tobacco, alcohol, sweets, coffee, chocolate, fried food, spicy, or acidic food, large deglycyrrhinated licorice can coat the esophagus (w/o adrenal/kidney side effects); slippery elm can help-ok short term.
