A member asked:

I have a steam burn in my fnger...it looks dark red or violet..how can i treat it? and prevent it from leaving a mark?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Zinc oxide, aquaphor: It is a red/ purplish color because the burn when deep enough to pop some blood vessels. This is like a bruise and over time and clear. The damage went into the dermis where the blood vessels are and therefore has the possibility of causing a scar. The finger is one area with very good blood supply and may heal without scarring. Using zinc oxide and covering with a band aide protects skin
