Comorbidity: Two separate conditions. 1. Rec.: swollen gums can be a sign that you are at risk for, or already have, gum disease. See a dentist for evaluation and treatment.
2. Seasonal flu is very common viral infection. Usually the condition resolves on its own with home care. Drink water and get a good rest. If concerned, see your pcp.

Swollen gums: It sounds like you may have aggravated an already existing infection, and/or have periodontal disease (gum disease). However, it is impossible to know for sure without a visual examination and x-rays.
It is important for you make an appointment with your dentist to have this examined and treated.
