Imaging!: The primary cause of a fracture in the scaphoid is a fall on an outstretched hand. The first evaluation should be a physical exam. The first imaging study to r/o a fracture will be an x-ray. If you continue with symptoms after a period of immobilization, your doctor may order an mri.
