Atrial tachycardia: Elevated heart rate, or palpitations, can cause a range of symptoms. For someone your age, this is most likely a benign supraventricular tachycardia. This can be evaluated by a doctor putting you on a monitor for several days to see exactly what type of rhythm disturbance you have. There are some basic manuevers that may help relieve this uncomfortable sensation.

Palpitations: You may be having palpitations. It can be secondary to arrhythmias, premature ventricular or atrial contractions. Hyperthyroidism can also cause palpitations. It is better you are evaluated starting with an ekg and blood work. You may need to see a cardiologist for further work up.
