Get checked out: The most likely reason for your symptoms would be costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartilage which connects the breast bone to the ribs. It lays over the heart so patients often think the heart is involved and it will hurt when you cough. Treatment is symptomatic with anti-inflammatory medicine and it will resolve. Your doctor will decide if it is necessary to work the pain up.
