It depends: There are many different types of brain tumors with variable appearances on a brain mri. Most appear as an abnormal mass of tissue often with edema (fluid/swelling) in the surrounding brain tissue. Many (but not all) tumors will enhance with contrast dye making them stand out against the normal non-enhancing brain tissue.
