It depends...: Fentanyl, remifentanyl, nitrous, Demerol (meperidine hydrochloride) are just a fee of the medications given intravenously by the rn's during labor. Self medication during labor is usually discouraged. As far as getting medications in the back (epidural), it is mostly local anesthetics that are not narcotics.
