Can i have a strand of my daughter's hair tested to see if marijuana is being smoked around her?

No.: You can test it, but it should only reflect her smoking. Not "around her."
however the main question is whether you trust your daughter to tell you the truth. And that is the more important thing.
So perhaps see a family therapist or ask her to tell you the truth b/c you care/love her. And hopefully she will tell you.

Yes to hair testing: Concentrations of marijuana found in hair can be used to determine whether or not someone is an active smoker or user vs. Just being around it passively. You've got about 90 days to get your data from the time of last smoking. Need about 1.5 in. Of the hair taking from the end of the strands.

You can also discuss the matter with her as I'm sure you have done. If you send off a hair sample and it comes back with a positive result you may have a new problem (loss of trust)
