Yes it can!: Nervous breakdown is not a medical/psychological term; it is commonly used by people to indicate that somebody is suffering from a mental illness or unusual emotional turmoil. Usually, it means that somebody's mental health is so compromised that they don't function normally. Experiencing very intense anxiety can make somebody feel that they have a nervous breakdown.
