I had an injury and my toenail started blackening and eventually detached from the toe. what should i do?

It will grow back: Clean the toe and bandage it with a nonstick bandage material like tefla and some antibiotic ointment. Change this daily until the nailbed toughens and isn't painful. If the toe turns red, drains pus or becomes more painful, see a podiatrist. It can take 9 months for a toenail to grow back..

Get it off...: At this stage it can only (potentially) cause you problems. Once the old nail is off, apply lotrimin (clotrimazole) ultra cream regularly to help prevent nail fungus from getting into the new nail.

Nothing: it will either grow back (likely) or it won't…nothing you do will help it.
