Need more info: We don't do random ct scans. There must be some medical reason why the doctor feels he should have a scan. I would need more info to completely answer your question. Have your dad talk with his physician.

Hard to tell: Just the fact they want to further work up him with a ct scan, doesn't necessarily mean cancer. There may be a suspicion for that but it may be required to further explain abnormalities seen on xrays or other initial studies that may not necessarily be cancerous.

Possibly: This answer is best addressed by the physicians and clinicians that are working up your relatives. It sounds like they're definitely concerned about something at their scanning a different portion of the body.

Not easy to tell : Without the prior imaging studies reports it is difficult to give you a precise answer. The fact that he has pneumonia alone does not suggest cancer but if there were other suspicious findings in the x-rays or ct scan that were done what they might be wanting to do is to look further into those. I would wait for the results of the new test and i would also ask who is taking care of him about it.
