What does a bladder ultrasound tell you about frequent urination?

Bladder ultrasound: A bladder ultrasound can check for 'bladder stones' , tumors, or mass 'pressing' on the bladder causing irritation. The most important finding on the bladder ultrasound is a test called: 'post void residual' the bladder volume is estimated when full and just after emptying. If your bladder empties completely=suggests overactivity. If bladder not empty=suggests overflow incontinence or atonic.

Urinary retention: It is best to tell you if you are retaining urine in the bladder. It may identify a bladder tumor but it is a very poor test for diagnosing cancers, espcially if the tumor is small. It can also look at the thickness of the bladder muscle to help gauge the chronicity of urinary retention, if present.
