Not common in US: Per the cdc ascariasis lumbricoides is uncommon in the United States. Per the cdc "an estimated 807-1, 221 million people in the world are infected with ascaris lumbricoides".

2% in the US: The majority of pt with ascariasis live in asia (73%), africa (12%) and south america (8%). In the us, hand hygiene, modern sanitation and waste treatment has made ascariasis uncommon (2% of stool samples) though it may be more than 30 % in children 1- 5 yrs of age in specific rural areas of the south, and can be acquired in returning travelers from outside the us.
