Possible infection: If you have had recent surgery and you notice fuel odor along with pus, redness, increasing pain or tenderness of the area, and swelling you definitely need to call your surgeon for inspection of a possible secondary infection.

Infection?: A "bad odor" from a surgical site could be the result of an infection. Fever, an enlarging area of redness, swelling and increasing pain would also occur. You should contact your surgeon and let him know.

Odor's coming from a: Wound after surgery is not normal. I would go to the emergency room and/or see the surgeon immediately to make sure there is not a life threatening infection going on. Be sure they check your tetanus status.
