Schizophrenia: Schizophrenia is a life-long illness. Medical science cannot heal it, and can only offer treatment to control it. If your symptoms are well-controlled, then do speak to your doctor about reducing your doses of medications, as it is entirely reasonable to find the lowest dose of medicine that still works. Do not stop taking your medicine or you will risk having a relapse, ; each relapse causes.

We wish so, but no: Unfortunately, current treatment of schizophrenia is able to manage symptoms only -- and not cure the condition. Medications can keep symptoms at bay, and working closely with your psychiatrist will allow you to have the healthiest life you can overall. If you stop your antipsychotic medications, chances are very good that symptoms of schizophrenia will return.

Your medication should be managed by a Psychiatrist. If you are not confident in your Doctor please see another for a second opinion. Please see a Clinical Psychologist with expertise in multiple types of psychotherapy to help you and recommend supportive services.
