A member asked:

How can elevated rbc count associated with impaired pulmonary gas exchange?

A doctor has provided 1 answer
Dr. Joel Ross answered

Elevated RBC: If the elevated RBC is indeed above the upper limit of normal for that lab and on repeat it is confirmed there are a few possibilities to consider. Certain people have a higher RBC count and that is normal. However there are lung conditions and blood disorders that can cause this as well. That is why prior lab tests are so important. Air exchange in the lungs is not altered with a mild elevation
