Improves circulation: atherectomy is plaque removal. If successful, it should reduce blockage and improve blood flow. This will reduce pain.

Atherectomy: Usually if balloon angioplasty and/or stenting will not provide a satisfactory channel through the plaque, Atherectomy (which cuts into or shaves away some of the bulk of the plaque) can be helpful. Many times after Atherectomy a balloon angioplasty is still needed to get the best result.
