Repairs weakness: There are several types of hernia surgery, the most common is inguinal and is best handled as an outpatient with local anesthesia. Here small intestine slides out of the groin or inguinal canal and this opening is closed preventing bowel from sliding out. A ventral hernia is a weakness in the belly wall and usually requires some type of mesh to give the belly wall strength.
